Registration for APTA Capitol Hill Day is now closed. Please reach out to APTA Advocacy if you have any questions.

APTA Capitol Hill Day attendees should view the Briefing Book to prepare for the event.

Don't miss this special chance to meet with your elected representatives and their staff members to advocate for our profession and the people we serve.

APTA Capitol Hill Day is being held in conjunction with the APTA Leadership Congress. Mandatory advocacy training will occur 4-6:30 p.m. on July 24, and legislative meetings will take place on Capitol Hill between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on July 25. Registrants also should plan to attend a preparatory webinar July 19 at 8 p.m. ET that will go over logistics and announce the issues we will address. A Zoom link will be sent to registered participants in early July, and the webinar will be recorded for those who cannot attend.

After training on July 24, consider joining PTPAC's 50th anniversary party, 8-10 p.m. at the LINE Hotel in D.C. Buy tickets when you register for Capitol Hill Day or on site at the House of Delegates on July 24.

To ensure timely arrival at the training workshop, and to make enough time to finish Hill visits, arrive in D.C. by 3 p.m. on July 24 and schedule return flights for after 5 p.m. on July 25. (The closest airport to the Omni Shoreham is Reagan National Airport.) If you do need to leave earlier, alert APTA staff so they can try to set up your Capitol Hill visits to fit your travel schedule.

APTA’s vendor, Advocacy Associates, will schedule all meetings on your behalf, using your provided home and business or school addresses to match you with your legislators. Most attendees will have three meetings (two Senate and one House). Please do not schedule Capitol Hill meetings on your own. Receiving multiple meeting requests for the same group is a major annoyance to members of Congress and their staff, and could jeopardize our long-term relationship with the office.

If you didn't book your housing during registration, your registration confirmation is required to access your record. First, click the Register and Book Housing button above to enter your name, email address, and registration confirmation number. Next, click the Book/View Your Hotel button.

Advocacy Training Day

Mandatory advocacy training on July 24 will cover the issues we will address and best practices for meeting with members of Congress and staff. You also will meet with your state delegation, or others attending from your home state, to plan the strategy and logistics for each meeting.

Day on the Hill

Buses will pick you up July 25 from the Omni Shoreham and likely drop you off at Peace Circle at the bottom of Capitol Hill. You will walk up the Hill to reach the House and Senate office buildings, which may take about 10-15 minutes.

Between meetings, visit the debriefing center within the Reserve Organization of America building near the Hart Senate Office Building. There, you can submit meeting feedback, write thank-you notes, and regroup with your delegation. Please note capacity restrictions of 250 people at a time. No refreshments will be provided at ROA, but the House and Senate cafeterias will be open.

Keep a few things in mind for your Hill visits:

  • Watch what you’re bringing with you. For a full list of prohibited items, please visit the U.S. Capitol Police website. Also, do not bring luggage to Capitol Hill. You must leave your luggage at the hotel, either in your room or with the bell stand. We do not have space at the ROA building to accommodate luggage, and you may not leave luggage on the buses. If you try to board a bus with your luggage, you will be asked to return it to your room or to the bell hop at the Omni Shoreham.
  • Please wear business attire for your Capitol Hill meetings. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as you will be walking a lot on Capitol Hill, often on marble floors. (The pre-visit training at the hotel is business casual.)
  • There will be lines for security before you enter the House and Senate office buildings, so plan your timing accordingly, but you do not need an escort.
